Investment Week at a Glance

Stocks finished mixed last week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.2%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.7%, and the NASDAQ was up 1.3%. Foreign stocks (MSCI EAFE) were also up 0.2% for the week. University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index Falls in September

The University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index was released last week at 48.1, down from 51.7 in August. This is one of the lowest levels of consumer confidence since the monthly study began in 1952. This data indicates that while the overall economy and markets have been resilient so far in 2026, consumers remain pessimistic due to higher inflation and interest rates.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Forecasts Big Quarter for US GDP Growth

On September 25th, the Atlanta Fed updated its estimates for the third quarter of 2026. According to the GDP Now model the bank released, economists at the Atlanta Fed anticipate a 5.0% annualized real GDP growth rate for Q3 2026. This number is largely fueled by an estimated 18.7% growth increase in private domestic investment year-over-year.

Palo Alto Networks Stock Up 108% Year-to-Date, and 360% in the Last 5 Years.

Palo Alto Networks (PANW), a global leader in the cybersecurity industry, has seen its stock price boom in recent years as demand for increased cybersecurity and AI-related security solutions continues to grow. On September 1st, the company reported a record $3.41 billion in revenue for its most recent quarter, a 34% increase from the same quarter the year prior (Palo Alto Networks Investor Relations). Management also provided a positive outlook for the 2027 fiscal year, with annual revenue estimates reaching over $14 billion. Palo Alto Networks is set to report its next quarterly earnings on November 19th, and analysts are expecting another strong quarter from the company (CNBC).
